Good leadership

A leader is a combination of one who manages (deals with logistics, processes) and supports (deals with needs, behaviour).

There are many different ways to lead and many different styles of leadership. You can put your own 'brand' onto the role.

An ideal leader:

  • Observes
  • Listens
  • Motivates
  • Responds to questions
  • Responds situationally 
  • Manages difficult situations
  • Has a positive disposition
  • Leads by example
  • Gives critical feedback supportively
  • Builds group formation
  • Is organised
  • Is welcoming
  • Is a good communicator (verbally and non-verbally)
  • Is reflective about their own performance
